My husband and I recently moved to a more wooded area on a lake. We came from a subdivision that was once pasture land and had no trees. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with all the wildlife that would come through our yard. We have deer, chipmunks, geese, birds, squirrels, and even a fat woodchuck! The squirrels were instantly our favorites, with their quirky mannerisms and fun behaviors! We began feeding them in the backyard. After they caught on, they would come back everyday to check if we had put food out. We decided that we would like to have a better view of them so we began coaxing the squirrels up to the top floor of our home. Everyday we would move the food up the stairs a few feet until they were right outside our living room’s picture window!
Making the journey to the house is no small feat. Since our home overlooks a lake, it is on a hillside which makes it very tall. The squirrels must climb a very old and large tree up towards our deck and make a big jump to the railing. They are so used to it now, they look like pro aerialists!
We began feeding them different things to find out what they liked and didn’t like. This page is dedicated to finding out just what these cute creatures will eat and what they will do to get it!
