I took the pumpkins off the front porch I was using for decoration and let the squirrels have at them! They loved digging out the seeds!
This was by far the most amusing thing so far to watch the squirrels eat! They started by drinking the juice and would lick it up like a cat, I had never seen a squirrel do this! They enjoyed every part of the watermelon, even the rind. When the accidentally turned it over at some point early in the morning, they ate a large hole through the rind to get inside and finish the snack! I believe it was a huge hit!
Peanuts!! Our squirrels love eating in shell peanuts! They are yummy and portable, both of which are very appealing to our squirrels! Try always to use the unsalted versions when feeding them as regular food!
Squirrels love pistachio’s! However I will not be feeding them anymore due to their messiness! They like to “grab and go” with the pistachios and I have found the shells all over my our decks. This is the same with most of the squirrel food, except that you cannot sweep pistachio shells very well and they get stuck in the grooves of the deck, making it impossible to retrieve with out a pair of needle nose pliers! We have also been staining our deck and getting a pistachio shell in a roller brush, makes for a long day!
We don’t want our squirrels getting bored so sometimes we give them an obstacle to overcome to get their snacks. This one they passed with “flying” colors!
We hung a wire wildlife feeder from the eve of the house in front of our living room window, check out what happens!
